Jinda Haynes has been appointed as interim superintendent of Davie County Schools, effective May 1.
Haynes, who has been serving as assistant superintendent for human resources and leadership development for the past six years, will step into the role following the retirement of Superintendent Jeff Wallace.
Members of the board of education are interviewing candidates for the permanent superintendent, and hope to have that person on board in June.
Wallace is retiring on May 1.
An educator with almost 30 years service in Davie County Schools, Haynes began her career in 1995 as a science teacher at Davie High. Over the years, she has held multiple leadership roles in the district, including principal at Davie High School and Davie County Early College, where she led the school’s opening in 2007.
In addition to previously leading the district’s curriculum and instruction department, she has been instrumental in strategic planning, instructional leadership, and staff development, ensuring that Davie County Schools continues to provide high-quality education for its students.
Haynes earned a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Secondary Education from Appalachian State University. Throughout her career, she has been recognized as Davie County Schools Administrator of the Year and Principal of the Year.
“Mrs. Haynes’ leadership experience and deep understanding of Davie County Schools make her the ideal choice to guide us through this transition,” said W.G. “Dub” Potts, Board of Education chair. “Having someone with her insight already within DCS allows us to maintain stability and continue our mission of providing exceptional education for our students.”
As part of the ongoing superintendent search, the Board of Education announced on March 18 that it received 28 applications from nine states, including North Carolina, and will be moving into the interview stage of the superintendent search process in the next few weeks.
