A Davie man is accused of murdering another man in Mocksville just before midnight on Friday.
Danny Earl Carter, 32, of NC 801 S., Cooleemee, was taken into custody on Saturday morning hiding outside of a nearby residence. He is charged with murder.
Deputies were first dispatched to a stabbing call at at the residence on Gwyn Street at 11:56 p.m. June 21.
The victim – Mark Randall Dukes, 62, of the residence – called 911, and died en route to the hospital, Hartman said. Two females were in the house when officers arrived.
“Carter and Dukes are known to each other and were possibly involved in a disturbance at the time of the stabbing,” Hartman said. The two had been seen together earlier in the day, and Carter was the partner of Dukes’ niece.
Carter fled the scene that night on foot.
Hartman said that extra officers were on patrol in town through the night and morning. Just before 9 a.m. Saturday, someone called 911 and said they had seen the suspect behind a residence near the scene of the stabbing. Officers were on the scene within a minute and a half, Hartman said, and found the suspect hiding under a child’s inflatable swimming pool.
He surrendered with incident.
Hartman said that drugs believed to be methamphetamine were found in the victim’s residence on Gwyn Street, and that officers had been called to the residence in the past and were familiar with the suspect and victim.
The victim suffered at least three stab wounds. The potential weapon has not been found, Hartman said on Monday morning.
Carter was also served with a warrant for his arrest from Kansas, where he was charged with assault.
