A busy bridge connecting two roads will be closed for replacement starting next week.
Bridge Maintenance crews from the N.C. Department of Transportation will close Ijames Church Road at the bridge over Bear Creek. Beginning the morning of June 24, crews will close the 56-year-old bridge to perform repairs to the wooden backwall and piles supporting the bridge.
The bridge is scheduled to reopen July 5, weather permitting.
Ijames Church Road is between Sheffield Road and US 601 North, Mocksville.
- Drivers going to Mocksville can continue on Sheffield Road to US 64, then turn left to get to Mocksville.
- Drivers traveling on US 601 North can take Sheffield Road to Ralph Ratledge Road, turn right and travel to Wagner Road, turn right and travel to Blackwelder Road where they will turn left to reach US 601 North.
Drivers should anticipate a longer commute and use caution if traveling near the work zone.
