62 students had COVID at holiday break

The number of Covid cases in Davie County continues to climb.
On Dec. 20, Davie Health and Human Services reported that 265 Davie residents were positive with Covid, compared to 220 on Dec. 13.
The holiday break for students in Davie County Schools couldn’t have come at a better time, as more young people are testing positive for the virus.
On Dec. 17, there were 62 active cases among the 5,900 students in the school system. Five of 800 staff members were infected.
Schools, listed by number testing positive and the number of students quarantined on Dec. 17:
• Cooleemee Elementary, 4 and 17;
• Cornatzer Elementary, 0 and 5;
• Mocksville Elementary, 6 and 12;
• Pinebrook Elementary, 3 and 13;
• Shady Grove Elementary, 1 and 15;
• William R. Davie Elementary, 10 and 40;
• North Davie Middle, 9 and 71;
• South Davie Middle, 7 and 33;
• Ellis Middle, 1 and 6;
• Central Davie Academy, 0 and 0;
• Davie High, 9 and 47; and
• Davie Early College, 0 and 1.
The health department reported that on Dec. 20, a total of 69 residents age 17 and younger had the virus.
