Mrs. Mary Broadway Daugherty, 77, of China Grove, died on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at her home.

Born Jan. 20, 1944 in Davie County, she was the daughter of the late Bud and Ruby Gales Broadway. Her eight brothers and sisters and an infant son, Jimmy Darryl Barney, also preceded her in death.

She was a longtime member of Lutheran Chapel Church, where she had served in many capacities. She retired from Hoechst Celanese after many years. Once retired, she spent her time continuing to serve others as she had always done.  She had a servant’s heart and loved helping others. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was active at her church. She would collect toys and other items for her birthday and other holidays to donate to her favorite West Virginia mission. This was one of the many things she did for others.  She was known for excellent cooking skills; especially homemade biscuits, chicken and dumplings and fried apple pies. She loved gardening and canning her own vegetables to serve at her favorite family gatherings.  Family was everything.

Survivors: her husband of 18 years, Jerry of the home; her 3 children, Richard Spillman (Michele), Jimmie Sue Collett (Pernell) and Darryl Barney (Lisa; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Hunsucker (B.J.), Laura Spillman (Dakota), Michael Spillman (Kristina), Sarah Collett and Courtney Barney.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 31, 2-3 p.m. at Lutheran Chapel Church, followed by the funeral at 3 officiated by Pastor John Tucker.  Committal service will be after at the Lutheran Chapel Church Cemetery.

Memorials: Lutheran Chapel, 135 Eudy Road, China Grove, 28023.
