Ty Kelly of Advance received the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held at Hillsdale United Methodist Church.

He is a member of Troop 700 and the son of Paul and Laura Kelly of Advance.

For his Eagle Scout project, he cleaned headstones in the cemetery of Bethlehem United Methodist Church of Advance, where he is a member. He worked with cemetery committee members and researched cleaning agents and stone materials.

While working, Ty and members of Troop 700 discovered headstones of war veterans and familiar community names.   

He is a senior at Davie County High School, where he is captain of the varsity lacrosse team. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Delegation Leader of Youth and Government. Ty is an officer with the Student Council and has served on mission trips with the Bethlehem Youth.

He will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
