Jody Hall was enjoying her vacation, lounging on the beach at Ocean Isle.
Then there was some commotion, and she quickly realized that two children were being swept out in a rip current.
A member of the Mocksville Fire Department, she put her training to use and jumped in to help save the children.
When it was over, it was back to enjoying her vacation, just like it hadn’t happened.
Last month, she was honored by the Mocksville Town Board and fire department, awarded a plaque for her heroic deed.
“A firefighter is always on duty, whether here or on vacation,” said Chief Frank Carter. “I’m proud of her and her family.”
Carter also introduced three firefighters at the meeting who, own their own, had taken some 500 hours of training to bolster their firefighter certification. They were Brian Neely, Ben Lagle and Justin Vocke.
