Eva Mae Haynes of Cooleemee died on Monday, July 29, 2019 at her home in Mocksville.
She was born Oct. 31, 1929 in Cooleemee, to James and Estelle Hill. She started school in North Carolina but finished when her family and she moved to New York City. She graduated from the Bronx, N.Y. school system. She had a passion for working with people and worked as a home health aide in New York. In 1987, she moved back home to North Carolina to be closer to her family in the South. She loved caring for others, dancing and being around family. She was a joy to be around.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her sister, Nancy Hill; her brother, James Hil; and her husband, John Arthur Haynes.
Survivors: 2 nephews David Kelly (Sheila Kelly), Edward Harvey Jr. (LaShonda Harvey); 2 nieces, Angel Harvey and Vickie Hill; 11 great-nieces and -nephews, Jason Kelly, Jeneva Kelly, Krystle Kelly, Tychela Cobb, Tyshon Cobb, Nazsha Harvey, Lateasha Harvey, Andre Harvey, Jahid Scott, Jannah Edwards, and Tori Clark; 14 great-great-nieces and -nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
A visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel in Mocksville. A funeral service was held the following day, Friday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m., also at the Davie Chapel with Pastor Rodney Banker officiating. Burial will be at the Liberty AME Zion Church Cemetery in Mocksville.
