Maudie Howard (Carter) Miller, 91, of Advance and Fayetteville, died on May 19, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
She was born April 14 1928 near Farmington, daughter of the late Samuel Howard and the late Geneva Myers. She married Joseph Grady Carter in 1948 and after his death in 1969 married Harold A Miller in 1978. She was preceded in death by her husbands; brothers – Delmer, Earl, Jimmy, Joseph and Jessie Ray; sisters – Pearl Markland, Thelma Taylor, Addie Fine and Ella Mae Howard; children – Patti Carter Howard, David Dean Carter, Timothy Joe Carter and grandchildren –Wade Carter and Austin Carter.
She worked for Hanes Hosiery in Winston-Salem at various jobs culminating in an inspector’s position. She attended the Macedonia Moravian Church near Farmington before moving to Fayetteville.
Survivors: sons – Barry H. Carter of Kinston and Jonathan Paul Carter of Farmington; brother, Samuel Howard; sisters, Rosie Steelman, Pansy Myers and Sue Hacker; grandchildren, Stephanie Renee Alphin, Melissa Sue Eason, Thomas Joseph Howard, Deanna Marie Carter and Carrie Jo Carter; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tommy, Michael, Zachary, Gray, Ricky, Elijah, Dylan, Logan, and Ethan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at the Crosslife Church, 844 US 64, Mocksville, with Daniel Gamble officiating.
A covered dish pig picking will be held in celebration on Sunday, June 9 starting at 1:30 at 327 Hall Walker Lane, Advance. Bring your favorite dishes and drinks and any stories you would like to share.
