William Harvey “Bill” Joyner Sr., 91, of Mocksville, died at his home on May 24, 2019.

He was born July 12, 1927, a son to the late Robert Lee Joyner and Ada Mae Collins. He attended Winston-Salem schools and on July 9, 1948, he married Peggy Adams.

He was also preceded in death by: his sons, William “Billy” Joyner Jr. and Jeffrey “Jeff” Dean Joyner; and 9 siblings.

He worked as a Greyhound bus driver for 30 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and achieved the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He was a member of the Blaise Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a former member of the Ruritan Club. He enjoyed playing guitar and making music with his siblings and traveling in his RV, but his main love was family gatherings.

Survivors: his wife of 70 years, Peggy Adams Joyner of Mocksville; sons, Michael “Mike” K. Joyner (Lisa) of Mocksville and Robert “Bob” A. Joyner (Merrilyn) of Mooresville; daughters, Brenda J. Legg of Mocksville and Deborah J. Hendrix (Boyd), all of Mocksville, and Martha J. McCraw of Advance; brother, Ovilla Joyner; sisters, Roberta Grantham (Ronnie), Zerilda Amos and Arlene Lowe; 14 grandchildren, Dana and Mark Joyner, Josh Carpenter, Chris Gibson, Angela Tedder, Amanda Blalock, Aaron Long, Michael Joyner Jr., Leigh-Anne Weatherman, Joe Joyner, Brandi Joyner, Amber DeLeo, Shane Brennan, T.J. McGraw; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held on Monday, May 27 at Blaise Baptist Church in Mocksville from 10:30 a.m.-noon. A funeral service bagan at noon, with Glenn Sellers officiating. Burial followed at the Blaise Baptist Church Cemetery.
