A former employee of Davie County Schools has been arrested for alleged sex crimes with a child.
Jason Banks, 48, of Suntree Drive, Advance, was charged by the Davie County Sheriff’s Department Feb. 27 with 10 counts each of third- and second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $500,000 bond, pending a first appearance hearing Thursday in Davie District Court.
The sheriff’s office released little information, other than the investigation began in January.
Banks had been on leave from his job as a speech language pathologist at Shady Grove Elementary School since Jan. 22. A “for sale” sign went up in his yard soon after that.
According to arrest warrants, Banks is accused of filming, recording and possessing videos of a young child fully and partially naked, performing sex acts.
Shady Grove parents were informed of the arrest last week in a voice mail from Principal Sarah Maier, who, in part, said:
“The arrest and related charges do not involve any conduct that occurred at or related to Mr. Banks’ job at our school. We have fully cooperated with law enforcement and the safety of our students is our top priority. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and partner with parents and the community to maintain a safe teaching and learning envioronment for the students we serve.”
The school system issued a similar statement.
