Terry Renegar was re-elected chair of the Davie County Board of Commissioners last month. Richard Poindexter was elected vice chair.
Both were by 4-1 votes, with Mark Jones voting against both nominations. New commissioners Benita Finney and James Blakley joined Renegar and Poindexter in approving the nominations.
Prior to the new commissioners taking the oath for the office, the board recognized the two outgoing commissioners – Robert Wisecarver and John Fergusson.
“Thank you for a job well done to these two commissioners, two men of impeccable intregity and ethics,” Renegar said. “They have served the county well. These gentlemen have worked diligently for the county.”
Wisecarver thanked the county staff, which he called “second to none.”
Ferguson said “hopefully we have made a few things better. I’ve been a small part of that, this is a team.” He also referenced the fact that people sometimes get upset with decisions. “If you want to make everyone happy, sell ice cream, don’t get into public service.”
Finney thanked the county staff for helping her learn the ropes of county business, and county residents for trusting her to do the job.
Blakley had similar comments. “I look forward to serving everyone. We have a good board here. I think we’re going to do a lot of good things.”
