Alvin L. Myers, son of the late Ollie Cletus and Florence Boger Myers, died on Thursday July 19, 2018.
He was born April 8, 1936, in Davie County, attended Shady Grove High School, and was in Davie High’s first graduating class. He was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean Conflict as a radio repairman. He worked at R.J. Reynolds for more than 30 years until his retirement. He was a caregiver for his late wife of 51 years, Betty Lou Spease whom he had made a family which included a daughter Melissa Garvin (Jesse) of Colfax and their 3 children Aidan, Bailey and Cameron; and a son Robert of the home. Alvin didn’t believe in sitting still except on Sunday’s, unless the mood struck him to go window shopping or buy some potted flowers. He loved auctions and coffee almost as much as he loved his family and nearly always had a cup of coffee in his hand.
He is also preceded in death by 6 brothers, 3 sisters and their spouses. He cherished his nieces and nephews, and most any child he ever had the privilege to hold. He was a Christian.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with the Rev. Charles Turner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Elbaville United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorials: B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, 27103.
