Chester Odell Shinault

Chester Odell Shinault, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury.
He was born in Surry County on Jan. 9, 1934, the son of the late Grover Shinault and Flora Chandler Shinault.He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue Shinault, a sister, Ruby Snow, and a brother, Luther Shinault. He was retired from the furniture industry, having worked for both Heritage and Lexington Furniture Companies. He taught himself to play the guitar when he was 15. He played by ear. Music was his passion and bluegrass and old country was the only music for him. He bought his first guitar, a Gibson, for around $300. He played it for more than 60 years. He enjoyed reading the Bible and could hold a discussion on his beliefs with anyone. He also liked to watch a good World Wide Wrestling match on TV.
Survivors: a son, Junior Phillip Shinault and wife Melissa of Little River, S.C.; 2 daughters, Mary Jane Roemer and husband Thomas of Salisbury, and Ann Hollar of Statesville; 10 grandchildren, Timothy, Shelly, Mandy, Adam, Sean, Sammie, Morgan, Jessica, Hans and Tanner; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ailca, Donna, Patrick, Katelyn, Jack, Zeke, Matt, Lili and Rory.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the chapel of Mackie-Sinclair-Hawkins Funeral & Crematory Service in Yadkinville with the Rev. Rowan Fay officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home.
