Black history celebration Feb. 22 at senior services

February is Black History Month and Davie County Senior Services is joining with Graham Funeral Home to celebrate on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bobby H. Knight Senior Services Building, 278 Meroney St. in Mocksville.
This year’s guest speaker will be Gladys Scott.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. for those who wish to stay. Reserve a meal by Feb. 15. This program is open to the entire community of all ages.
A native of Rock Hill, S.C.,, Scott is the daughter of the late John and Pearlena White. She is a graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She also studied at Livingstone College in Salisbury and completed the undergraduate program for early childhood education. She holds two master’s degrees from N.C. A&T State University: one in early child education and the other in educational administration and supervision.
A lifelong educator, she has been a teacher’s assistant, an elementary school teacher, assistant principal and elementary principal. She received several state and local awards.
Scott is a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in the Fork community, where she serves as a trustee and senior missionary.
She also serves on several community boards and organizations: president of the Davie Business Women’s Assoc.; vice president of the Davie Retired Educators Personnel; Senior Services advisory board; SmartStart advisory board; NC Credit Union advisory board; Davie NAACP; school volunteer; advocacy center advisory board; and advisor for the Pearls of Empowerment.
She is married to Clyde Scott Sr. They have three adult children: Clyde Scott Jr., Krysta Gary and Candace Scott. The are grandparents to four. She works for the family delivery business, C&D Express Enterprises, as secretary/treasurer.She enjoys practicing yoga, dance and Zumba.
