Friday deadline to file for office

Candidates continue to seek elected offices in Bermuda Run, Cooleemee and Mocksville.
In Cooleemee, Steven Douglas Corriher filed for mayor. Two seats on the town council are being sought by Jessica Daywalt Almond, Karen Chandler Smith, James Robert Szymanski and Steven Andrew Lagle. Szymanski and Jean Snead are the incumbents. Completion of an unexpired term now held by Daphne Beck is being sought by Beck, Judith Freeman Phillips, Michael Bernard White and Andrew Keith Reavis.
In Bermuda Run, Kenneth A. Rethmeier filed for re-election as mayor, and Jerry West filed for re-election to one of two seats to be decided. The other is held by John Guglielmi.
Robert S. Taylor filed for re-election to the Mocksville Town Board. Voters will also choose a mayor, now held by Dr. F.W. Slate. The seat held by Will Marklin is also up for election.
Filing is open until noon on Friday, July 17 at the Davie Board of Elections, 161 Poplar St., Suite 102 (lower level, back entrance of Brock Building). Fee is $5.
