Jerry ‘Nelson’ Young

Jerry “Nelson” Young, 82, of NC 801 South, Advance, died on Thursday, April 9, 2015.
Born in Davie County on Oct. 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Tillet Lester and Iva Stewart Young. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds, was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church and the Fork Civic Club. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. He loved family, fishing, camping, boating and the outdoors.
Survivors: his wife, Rebecca Jane Snider Young of the home; a son, Tim Scott Young of Advance; a daughter, Lori Young Bailey (Rick Jones) of Advance; a sister, Janell Pack of Advance; 2 grandsons, Travis Young (Sarah) and Trent Young; and 4 granddogs, Harvey, Amber, Zeb, and Oliver.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Teresa Young.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the Fulton United Methodist Church Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life service in the church with the Rev. Rodney Burton officiating. The family received friends following the service.
